Prudence Maltby is an award winning artist and curator. Born in Sussex, Prudence Maltby’s family immigrated to Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) when she was a small child. She returned to the UK in the 90s having spent 35 years in Africa. Prudence divides her time between drawing, curating exhibitions and coordinating visual arts projects. She has work in many private collections and gained several awards from Zimbabwe and England. Her curatorial projects have included exhibiting work by Gary Hume, Peter Randall Page and Susan Hiller, among many others. Prudence studied at Winchester School of Art.
'My art is concerned with a framework of autobiographical reference. Studio based, my paintings and drawings don’t necessarily owe their origins and reference to landscape. I’m interested not so much with the geography of a place but, with the spirit of a space acknowledging a life flavoured with the different rules and customs of faraway cultures. My aim is to present an intimate and personal set of windows into the corners of my psyche, presenting touchstones of reminiscence without allusions to places gripped by the complications of its past and the struggles of its present.'
